August 13

Okay, so it's been a long time since I wrote.  Now that summer is nearly over, things are getting a little calmer.  County Fair and Vacation Bible School are behind us, along with several camps and a mini-vacation.  Of course now we have school enrollment and the beginning of fall sports practice.  All that indicates that a new sort of craziness is just weeks away!

It's just nice to have a few hours each day to relax, read a book, and just enjoy each other and the beauty of the world!

About me:

My name is Theresa, aka "Tree" to some longtime friends and a few relatives.

I'm a (mostly) stay-at-home-mom of two.  My passions include my family, my faith, and living in a simple manner that respects the blessings we have been given.

We took some time to visit Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha.  We're insect aficionados due to 4-H Entomology projects, so we especially enjoyed the Butterfly Walk!

We have gone through A LOT of tea and lemonade this summer!  The trouble in our household is we have one person who only likes sweet tea, and one who refuses to touch it.  So we always have a pitcher of each kind of tea in the fridge.  Our daughter likes tea (mostly unsweetened), but much prefers lemonade.  Whatever we're drinking, yes, we frequently get it by the gallon at the store for ease, but it is  much more economical (and tasty!) to make it ourselves.

Owen's Sweet Tea

  • 2 quarts water
  • 8 tea bags
  • 1 cup sugar (or more to taste, 1/4 c at a time)
  • 2 quarts ice

Bring the water and the tea bags to a simmer on the stove.  Turn off heat and let steep for 10 minutes.  Remove tea bags,  Stir in the sugar until it dissolves.  Pour over ice to serve, or chill in refrigerator without diluting and server over ice later.

Anna's Favorite Lemonade

  • 1 gallon cold water
  • 1 1/2 cups lemon juice (we use bottled, but fresh is best!)
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar

Or for a smaller quantity:

  • 1 quart cold water
  • 1/3 cups lemon juice (we use bottled, but fresh is best!)
  • 2/3 cups sugar

Mix all together and pour over ice!
